TCM – Chinese Dietary Therapy


Course overview

Attending this unique 2 day course will give you, as a participant, in depth instruction into Chinese Dietary Therapy, (CDT) a central treatment pillar of Traditional Chinese and Oriental Medicine. It has been especially designed for participants who have an interest in nutrition, and are willing to look at food from a completely new perspective.

You will cover the principals behind eating for health, the impact of eating habits on the digestion, the needs of the digestive system and how to best support it, and to be able to use food in your day-to-day life in a new and different way.

You will explore the principles of this flexible and effective nutritional system, that food must be focused to the individual’s needs, and will learn how to identify foods according to their flavour, thermal nature, physiological action, discover the digestive process and the principles of preventative and remedial diet.

To help further develop your Qi a digestive Qi Gong will be taught during the 2 days as a support for healthy digestion.


 

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for registered health professionals; Nutritionists, Acupuncturists, Herbalists, Osteopaths, Masseurs, Tuina practitioners, final year students etc. and individuals with an interest in nutrition that have sound Allopathic or Oriental Medical knowledge.
Participants must be over 18 years old and if you are fasting for religious or other reasons you must inform the tutor before the course commences.
A foundation in Chinese / Oriental medical theory would be helpful but is by no means essential.


What will I learn?

On this hands on practical course, through lectures, discussion, group work, eating practices, and tasting food, you will discover the healing nature of what many of us take for granted.

The course will introduce you to the theoretical aspects, practical principles and understandings of CDT. You will learn the principles of preventative nutrition which can be used as advice in clinical practice, as a platform for further study or for personal interest and experimentation. You will explore how to use CDT in your daily life at home and in your clinic, for the health of yourself, your family and your clients.

You will learn to develop ways to implement the principles of CDT to stay healthy, and to learn what eating for health means.

Day 1

You will learn and understand the underling view and approach of CDT, be able to identify the thermal nature, action, flavour, movement of food according to CDT theories and in relation to the metabolism. To work with food examples to develop and consolidate knowledge, and to be able to use food in you day-to-day life in a different way.

By the end of the day you will have developed an understanding of common food stuffs, through the lens of CDT, be able to improve the health of yourself and family, and have the tools to develop your understanding through self experimentation and observation of food.

Day 2

You will explore the role of Chinese food energetics as a preventive medicine to maintain health. The focus of this day will be on the nurturing of life through nutrition, the protection of the digestive system, and the cultivation of good eating practice as the foundation of a ‘healthy diet’. The day is focused on the practical applications of how to stay well by using food to support health.

By the end of day 2 you will understand how to nurture life through nutrition, how to protect the digestive system, discover good eating practice as the foundation of a healthy diet, improve the health of yourself, family and clients, and have the tools to develop your understanding through self-experimentation and observation of food.


How many hours CPD

The course runs over 2 days, form 9.00am to 5.00pm so is valid for 14 hours CPD


Is the course assessed / qualification

There are no formal assessments on this course, though continued monitoring, will occur through group work and exercises to ensure assimilation of the material.

Course equipment provision
You will need to bring with you a note pad and pen or equivalent for notes taking, and a teaspoon for tasting. A full set of printed colour notes and all of the foods that you will taste and experiment with will be provided for you.
