Assesing and Treating Musculoskeletal and Sports Injuries with Acupuncture
This 1-day interactive and practical course has been designed to help you develop and improve your clinical skills in assessing and treating acute, sub acute and chronic sports injuries and musculoskeletal (MSK) problems.
Throughout the day you will cover how to accurately assess and treat acute and chronic MSK and sports related injuries and conditions.
This will enable you as a practitioner to improve the clinical outcomes for your clients, develop further clinical skills, explore the psycho-emotional and practitioner development issues related to sports injuries, and develop further your Qi.
Can I attend?
The course has been uniquely devised for practising and final year therapists of all disciplines who hold professional insurances that will cover them for the use of acupuncture within their scope of practice, and who have an interest in developing and enhancing their clinical skills.
Acupuncturists (BAcC, BMAS, ATCMA etc.)
Osteopaths (Dry needling).
Chiropractors (Dry needling).
A working knowledge of acupuncture (any particular style) is required.
What will I learn?
The aims of the day are to:
Develop a basic understanding of the patho-physiological processes of acute sub acute and chronic injures against a paradigm of both Western and Eastern medicine.
Improve your clinical assessment and treatment strategies.
Use safely and effectively a defined number of needles techniques and approaches.
Develop and improve your patient handling skills.
Develop a full understanding of the cautions and contraindications of the conditions and interventions covered.
Know when to treat, not treat and when to refer to others for ongoing care.
Throughout the day you will learn
Assessment of different categories of muscle / ligament injuries.
Differentiation of bruising and an outline of conventional treatment.
First aid for injuries.
How to effectively integrate Western and TCM acupuncture into effective treatment plans and treatment strategies to help your clients.
Examination of injured joints including the back, neck, knee, shoulder, arm and leg.
Learn how to integrate acupuncture and its adjunctive techniques more deeply into a your current practice.
Start to develop a multidisciplinary treatment approach to assisting clients.
A number of acupuncture techniques, including; thread needling, eagle claw, star fish formation, ah-shi points, electro-acupuncture, and learn their strengths and weaknesses.
A number of practical Tui na and Physiotherapy techniques, and when and where to use them.
General exercises for well-being and their importance to sports personnel, covering a number of simple and helpful Qi Gong exercises.
The contraindications, amber and red flags for treating acute and chronic injuries, and importantly when to refer patients to others.
By the end of the day, as a participant, you should have developed a better understanding of injuries in relation to the TCM and Western medical models, how to accurately assess a number of joints of the body, developed an understanding of how to effectively use acupuncture and its adjunctive techniques to treat these conditions, and learned how to formulate principles of treatment, treatment plans and points prescriptions based on these conditions.
Information you need to know before booking
Refreshments and lunch sadly are not provided.
You will need to bring a pen or pencil, we will be providing everything else; full colour course notes, all of the training equipment etc.
Regular feedback will be given by the tutors throughout the course, as and when appropriate.
Overall progress will be discussed with individuals at the end of the course.
There is no formal assessment, but a quiz style knowledge check at the end of the day will allow practitioners to check their own knowledge from each day.
You must consent to give and receive treatments during the training and must be over 18 years of age.
There will only be a maximum of 24 attendees on the course, (12:1 student tutor ratio) so book early to secure your place.
Please note due to the very practical and hands on nature of the course the minimum number of attendees required to run is 6.

Yes. If you’re just changing the name, then there is no charge.
If you want to change the date of your course, then there is no penalty up to 4 weeks before the course but after this charges may apply and the full range can be found on our website.
