Helping treat addictions with acupuncture

Course overview

This course has been designed to help you develop and improve your clinical skills in accurately assessing and treating the complex issue of addictions, and to show how you can integrate acupuncture into a multidisciplinary treatment model, to assist a client who may present in your clinic with problems using alcohol, sugar, nicotine, or cannabis. It has been designed to help enable you improve the clinical outcomes for your clients, develop further clinical acupuncture skills, explore the practitioner development issues related to addictions, and to develop your Qi.

Who is the course for?

The course has been uniquely devised for professional acupuncturists; BAcC, BMAS, AACP. ATCM, GOsC, etc. members, who have a sound working knowledge of acupuncture (any particular style), and a keen interest in developing their clinical skills.

The course is not intended for those who have received no training in any form of acupuncture.

Participants must hold professional insurances that will cover them for the use of acupuncture within their scope of practice. It will be underpinned at all times where possible by the most current academic literature and research.

What will I learn?

Participating fully in the course will enable you to;

Deepen and enhance your understanding of the effects of these drugs on the body.

Learn the basic patterns of disharmony of addictions in relation to TCM and Western medical models.

Identify a number of clinically useful points, a variety of dietary therapy approaches.

Learn 6 simple QiGong exercises to use with clients.

You will learn;

How to effectively integrate disciplines of TCM into an integrated effective treatment plan.

Develop treatment strategies to help patients.

Learn the strengths and weaknesses of interventions.

Importantly when to refer your patients on to others for appropriate help when red flags appear.

You will discuss how and when to effectively use acupuncture and its adjunctive techniques in treating your clients,

How to formulate principles of treatment, treatment plans and points prescriptions based on the TCM patterns of disharmony.

How many hours CPD?

7 hours CPD.

The day will run from 9.00am to 5.00pm
