Current literature will be explored to look at the evidence of efficacy from research and patient trials, and the course will offer a practical session to put your clinical reasoning into practice and allow you to experience the treatment of trigger points by assessing and treating each other.
The course will help you develop a basic understanding of the pain mechanism underlying a trigger point, an understanding of location and assessment of trigger points, the opportunity to apply manual techniques to de-activate trigger points, and muscle stretches.
You will be introduced to;
- the evidence based theoretical background of the trigger point mechanism and their referred pain.
- the physiology of trigger points, which is founded by the work of Travell and Simons.
- The identification of trigger points and their referred pain

By the end of the workshop you should be able to:
- Diagnose and locate trigger points and their referral patterns in myofascial tissues.
- Use manual techniques to de-activate trigger points.
- Apply appropriate stretches to affected muscles to restore full range of movement.
The course will cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of trigger points. In the theory part of the course will look at:
