About the course

This CPD course has been designed to develop further your use of classified and distal acupuncture points to treat musculoskeletal problems. You will learn the location and function of a number of Xi Cleft points, Front Mu points, Luo points, Yuan source points Hui points, and how to integrate them into your treatment of MSK problems. The course has been specifically designed for professionals with a desire to develop and improve their skills in accurately assessing and treating acute and chronic injuries.

The course will help you will develop your rationale for the treatment and intervention with acupuncture, develop further your skill, utilising and integrating  acupuncture, within a multi-disciplinary treatment approach treating MSK problems, and develop their sensitivity to Qi.

You will learn a number of needle techniques which facilitate the resolution of injuries such as bruising and swellings, and how to use a defined set of classified points to help patients presenting with MSK problems in clinic.   • Use safely and effectively defined acupuncture needle insertion technique.
  • Develop a variety of diagnostic skills using palpation and apply a variety of treatment approaches
  • Identify anatomical structures mapping to the Western and Chinese musculoskeletal models and be able to find and identify a number of body and Auricular acupuncture points.
  • Understand the relevant and appropriate health and safety issues, the basic functions of each of the acupuncture points, and develop and understanding of how and when to utilise them.
  • Develop appropriate patient handling skills.
  • Learn new treatment strategies to help patients, the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of interventions, the contraindications and red flags for treating acute and chronic sports injuries, and importantly when to when to refer patients on to others.

The course will cover;

  • The definition and explanation into the use of a defined number of classified acupuncture points in MSK clinic..
  • The Identification of a defined number of distal points useful in MSK clinic.
  • Point location and cautions of the defined points.
  • Needle technique, direction, depth and manipulations of these points.
  • Other techniques, starfish formation, surround needling, electroacupuncture.

By the end of the day attendees should be able to…

  • Understand and be able to use classified points in treating MSK problems.
  • Understand and be able to use distal points in treating MSK problems.
  • To improve clinical outcomes for clients.
  • To develop further clinical acupuncture and TCM skills.
  • Develop and improve clinical needling skills.
  • Use safe and effectively defined needle techniques and approach.

Learning objectives for the day

  • To understand the basic TCM theories underpinning classified and distal points.
  • To develop a better understanding of points and their uses in relation to Western and TCM medical models.
  • To effectively use acupuncture and adjunctive techniques to treat MSK conditions.
  • To formulate principles of treatment, treatment plans and point prescriptions based on the patterns of disharmony.

  • Acupuncturists (BAcC, BMAS, ATCMA etc.).
  • Osteopaths (Dry needling).
  • Chiropractors (Dry needling).
  • Physiotherapists (AACP).
  • Etc.

  • Refreshments and lunch sadly are not provided.
  • You will need to bring a pen or pencil, we will be providing everything else; full colour course notes, all of the training equipment etc.
  • You will be formatively assessed throughout the course by the tutor, with them providing you with constructive feedback and instruction.
  • All participants must be prepared to give and receive treatments during the training, and a must be over 18 years old.
  • If you are fasting for religious or other reasons you must inform the tutor before the course commences.
  • As a participant you must have a sound working knowledge of Acupuncture.
  • Due to the practical hands on nature of the course the minimum number of participants is 6.
